ABOUT
Marie Franco (b. 2000, Caracas, Venezuela) is a Peruvian-Venezuelan artist based in Miami, whose painting practice describes immigrant identity, adaptation and community through the visual language of improvisation. Her work explores the immigrant experience through economic spaces such as flea markets and swap meets, informed by her family history and the cultural landscape of South Florida.
As an artist, Marie has contributed murals to organizations such as Hispanic Unity of Florida, the City of Dania, and Broward County Public Schools. She is a graduate of New World School of the Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in Painting and a minor in Art History. Her work has been exhibited at the YoungArts Gallery (Miami, Florida), Laundromat Art Space (Miami, Florida), and 81 Leonard Gallery (New York, New York). She is a recipient of the Ellie’s Creator Award by Oolite Arts, the Wave Makers grant by Locust Projects, and the Miami-Dade Individual Artist Grant through the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. Marie is a current resident at Tunnel Projects.
